I had the pleasure of photographing Courtnie and Rick’s engagement portraits nestled in the heart of Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the Philbrook Museum of Art. The Museum boasts an enchanting haven – its picturesque gardens. A visual feast for photography enthusiasts and professionals alike, the Philbrook Garden beckons with its vibrant flora, serene water features, and charming architecture.
This couple is absolutely amazing, we played and laughed through the entire session, and Courtnie even helped me look for my phone that fell out of my pocket when I was “rolling” on the ground to get one of the couples favorite images! I am so grateful they chose us to photograph their love story.
Throughout their engagement session, my aim was to make the couple feel at ease, ensuring that every photograph captured the authenticity of their love. Courtnie's initial concerns about feeling overly posed dissolved into a carefree exploration of their unique connection.
Courtnie and Rick had their wedding in Jenks, Oklahoma at the Black Barn on the Spain Ranch property. This was super exciting as I have been wanting to photograph this barn but had not yet had the opportunity, I am so grateful this is the couple that I had that special moment with.
This enchanting venue provided the perfect backdrop for a couple who values authenticity, and their story unfolded beautifully through my lens.
The couple's journey began with a serendipitous "Game night" with mutual friends—a moment that set the stage for a love story worth documenting. When asked what persuaded them to choose me as their photographer, Courtnie shared, "Weddings can sometimes feel cookie-cutter, and I needed ours to be real and intentional." It was this commitment to authenticity that guided our entire session.
The couple, celebrating their wedding the day after their 5-year anniversary, opted for a look that captured real moments. Courtnie expressed the desire for natural, genuine shots, reflecting their unique personalities. Coordinating outfits that suited them and made them feel comfortable, the couple's attire echoed their authenticity and uniqueness.

Choosing Spain Ranch and the Philbrook as their session locations, the couple found both to be aesthetically pleasing. However, a word of caution was shared regarding the Philbrook, citing undisclosed costs and lack of communication that affected the shoot's natural lighting. Courtnie cautioned, "0/10 would not recommend," emphasizing the importance of researching and communicating with venues.
Despite the challenges at one location, the session itself was marked by excellence. Courtnie highlighted the importance of an interactive and friendly photographer, emphasizing that my approach made the experience feel genuine and unposed.
