Generational Heirlooms

Why do you keep calling my pics heirlooms?

Arguably a photograph (now) is one of the easiest things a person can turn into an heirloom. The reason you keep seeing the words heirloom or legacy is that because that’s what they truly are. Merriam-Webster dictionary describes an heirloom as “something of special value that gets handed down from one generation to another.” It doesn’t matter if that object’s value is purely sentimental or if it is worth money. The point of an heirloom is that it carries memories and stories about a person or a particular time.

Meaningfulness behind the photo

The portraits we create together are to help remind you of EXACTLY how you felt. No matter if that image is from a certain age, with a special person, from an important event, or even if they aren’t technically the best photos these are what create the most meaning for you.

To choose a photo this meaningful to you, that you think of all the people who are important to you, the milestones in your life, and the memorable holiday gatherings is such a beautiful moment.

Tangible Photographs

Make it real. Hardly anyone makes prints of their images anymore. People takes hundreds of images to store them in the cloud without ever even thinking of printing, when now more than ever it’s easier.

A huge factor in printing your products is to make them with archival materials. Many adhesives, papers, and inks are bound to fade or fall apart into yellow scrapes within a few years or at best they survive for 1 - 2 decades. Quality is important, you want these images to last not only your life time but to span that of the people who cherish you.

Create A Ritual

The most important part. No matter if you don’t have offspring to tell stories to these heirlooms, your heirlooms and life’s legacy can be shared with siblings, parents, friends, and those closer to you than your actual blood. Make a ritual of it, hang your image somewhere you can see it and point out to it everyday, or make a point to bring your little black book out on certain occasions. Your heirloom is not just about the recipient, it is about preserving your stories you want to remember.

Great Quality Products

The best luck will come to those who buy good quality. I highly recommend doing your research when it comes to printing your portraits. You will have great success in ordering from a professional lab instead of a consumer lab ( IE. Walgreen’s, Sams, Costco, ect.). High quality prints don’t necessarily mean bank breaking expensive, you can get great prints for cheap from some of our local labs, or you can spend more on fine art prints.

Ultimately the decision lies with you and what serves you best.

I hope your heirlooms last for generations to come.
