Hinges on Weather
A thought provoking, interactive, and modern display at the
Tulsa International Airport.

Imagine walking up to the security checkpoint. As you notice the big glass ceiling leading you towards the first stop on your journey, you see a vibrant skyline of clouds.
The stickers on the ground under your feet represent the formulation of water molecules.
As you get closer you start to notice that the water transforms. As you look up there is no way that you don’t notice the large suspended array of multi-colored clouds amongst the Tulsa skyline. -
My intent is to engage the childlike and adventurous spirit that rests within everyone. There’s just something about the algorithm of colors, shapes, and light coming together in perfect harmony that I find irrevocably fascinating. Airports can be associated with anxiety - being rushed to take off my shoes, to have my ticket and ID ready, to unpack my gear for security, and at times, to manage a spirited child. Somewhere in all of this, a traveler can lose their sense of wonder and forget about the miracle of flight.
Now that the space is engaging with the traveler in a curious and playful way, my proposed installation will continue to hold their attention by highlighting the various languages spoken by Tulsans through poetry in English, Spanish, Russian, Cherokee, Ukrainian, and potentially more. Out of these relationships we will develop experiences in which the arts continue to support and engage with our community's goals, showing travelers the embodiment of what it means to be a Tulsan.

I think that we have convinced ourselves that we are too busy to get lost in the clouds, even as we are about to travel amongst them.
The clouds we talked about are what make up the awe of colors in the sky that we see almost daily in Oklahoma.
The imagery represented here shows what the community sees and doesn’t see. Vivid structures and colors are what make up the sheer bliss of experiencing an Okie sky, no matter if you're out in the oil fields of Wellington or enjoying your time in downtown Tulsa.

Lenticular Prints give a modern look to a multi image piece. Fun Fact: There are also lenticular clouds we anticipate making for this display as well!
Creative Goals
My creative goal is to focus on a complete modern re-engagement of sky and place to make walking up to security less daunting. Imagine walking up to the checkpoint. As you notice the big glass ceiling leading you towards the first stop on your journey, you might notice a vibrant skyline. The stickers on the ground under your feet represent the formulation of water molecules. As you get closer you start to notice that the water transforms.
As you look up there is no way that you don’t notice the large suspended array of multi-colored clouds amongst the Tulsa skyline. Those clouds, skyline, and the large 3D prints above your head of our landscape, are what make up the awe of colors in the sky that we see almost daily in Oklahoma. I aspire to connect traveler and okie alike, to the dream of flight instead of the logistics of air travel through a fun, friendly, and engaging environment.
