History Through Dance at TUL
A second year in Concourse A waiting area at the Tulsa International Airport for M.Torres

As I look back on the past year, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to have showcased the beauty and cultural richness of Ballet Folklorico Tierra Mestiza at the Tulsa International Airport. From January 19, 2023, to January 17, 2024, visitors to the airport had the privilege of experiencing the vibrant colors, intricate costumes, and rhythmic dances that embody the essence of Latin American culture.

A Celebration of Culture and Tradition

The exhibit was a celebration of culture and tradition, showcasing the history and beauty of Latin American dance. For almost 25 years, Tierra Mestiza has been a cornerstone of the Tulsa community, spreading the joy and passion of folkloric dance to audiences of all ages. Their performances have not only entertained but also educated, sharing the stories and traditions of Latin America with audiences across Oklahoma.

Handcrafted Beauty

One of the highlights of the exhibit was the stunning costumes, each one a masterpiece of handcrafted beauty. Made locally by a Hispanic seamstress from Zacatecas, Mexico, these costumes are a labor of love, representing the rich cultural heritage of their region. Rafael, a key member of Tierra Mestiza, also contributed to the exhibit by showcasing his intricate hairpieces, adding an extra layer of authenticity to the display.

Looking Forward

As we look forward to future exhibits and performances, we are excited to continue our partnership with Ballet Folklorico Tierra Mestiza. We are committed to sharing the beauty and history of Latin American dance with audiences across Oklahoma and beyond. We hope that our exhibit at the Tulsa International Airport has inspired others to learn more about the rich cultural tapestry that surrounds us and to celebrate the diversity that makes our community so vibrant.

Con todo nuestro cariño, M. Torres & Ballet Folklórico Tierra Mestiza
