Top 5 things to ask your wedding photographer
Your not so average list of top five things you should really be asking your wedding photographer.
Do you have insurance?
- For me this is super important and should be for you as well. Not only does asking this question right off the bat distinguish a pro from lets say an armature or hobbyist, it also allows the professionals access to photograph in higher end spaces like a museum or historic building without adding on extra insurance for their lack of liability.
Our Answer - Yes, we do have insurance! So that certificate proof of liability will be of no issue to obtain should your venue require it.
2. Are you a registered professional?
- Your pros are registered ( and more often than not they can tell you in more than one place)! As a general rule, if they have insurance they are probably registered and seasoned pros. Most professionals in the industry also continue their education by attending conferences and teaching workshops ( like ourselves!) for merits and fellowship points in the industry.
Our Answer - We sure are! With and in the state of Oklahoma, Professional Photographers of America, and a few other organizations in the industry! We also have had the pleasure of attending, volunteering, teaching, and assisting workshops and conferences over the years.
3. Are you available on my date?
- Knowing if your pros are available on your date is essential.
Although there are times when couples choose to change their date due to either wanting to get their venue or to get on the list with their preferred professional, more often than not you have already spoken with a venue and have a date set for your wedding or elopement.
Our Answer - We might be! Although we would love to provide everyone and their loved ones with tangible family heirlooms to cherish for generations to come, we only take on a limited number of weddings each year. April and September fill up fast so book your date today!
4. Do you travel? What do those costs typically look like?
- Professional Photography rates very. As a baseline your average pro that travels will be able to tell you a minimum of what it generally costs and then will invoice you separate.
Think your photogs travel rate is too high?
Consider these factors:
Date
Travel ( some charge by hour, mile, gas, reimbursement, ect.)
Lodging ( typically you pay for your professional to arrive one day before and stay through night of the event)
Meals
Amount of time being covered
Our Answer - We do travel and we love to do so with our clients!
Our rate varies based on some of the above mentioned factors.
5. Do you have any known allergies?
- Out of the kindness of your heart ask your photographers and vendors you may be supplying food to if they have any allergies.
Typically us pros will carry some sort of goodies or snacks on us for the day while most of our higher end, elopement, and travel wedding clients already have our team on their meal count list - it’s always nice to know you’re thinking about us too.
Our Answer - Sadly yes, our dear friend dairy is no good for us. We don’t expect any special accommodations but we love that you are thinking about us as well!
